Note: Users require Mind Express 4 installed on their device to use Steps before Step Scanning. A compatible version of Steps before Step Scanning for Mind Express 5 is being worked on but is not yet available.

 

This is a collection of activities that have been designed to help individuals with severe multiple and physical challenges to develop the motor/cognitive abilities to activate first a single switch, then 2 switches, based upon the individual's own intent. There is no 'timing' aspect in any of these activities, because in learning and refining new movement patterns, the brain needs to be able to slow down in order to process the information and form new neurological connections.

All activities are based on the Stepping Stones to Switch Access by Linda J. Burkhart.

 

Technical Requirements:

Hardware Requirements:

• Operating System: Microsoft Windows® 7 or higher
• Processor: Intel x86 compatible
• RAM: 256 MB or more
• Free Hard Disk Space: 1 GB or more
• Switches: Two switches and some type of interface that is able to send the keyboard equivalents 1 and 2

Software Requirements:

• Mind Express 4 version 4.3.3.1528 or higher (Full, Player, or Demo) (With the full version of Mind Express 4, you will be able to make some customization to photos, songs, and videos.)

Access to the internet is required to be able to properly activate the 10 user Steps Before Step Scanning activities license in Mind Express 4.3.3.1528 or higher.
